The beautiful and massive Biltmore Estate.

Favorite Places at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC

Believe me when I tell you that a family trip to the Biltmore Estate will provide a FULL DAY of fun! It is a magnificent escape that offers a plethora of options perfectly suited for everyone in the entire family.

In addition to the massive 250-room chateau, the Biltmore Estate also has expansive and perfectly manicured grounds where you can freely roam, a farm complete with petting area, beautiful gardens laden with flowers, delicious ice cream, plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, a fabulous playground and much, much more. And, children nine and under receive FREE admission.

Here are three great reasons why we think the Biltmore Estate is one of the very best things to do in Asheville with kids.

The Biltmore House

Every ticket for the Biltmore Estate includes a self-guided tour of the Biltmore House, the Vanderbilt family’s private home, but I suggest spending a few extra bucks and upgrading to the one that includes an audio narration.

While at first the Biltmore Estate may not seem like something your kids would enjoy, those at the Biltmore organization have incorporated a few fun ideas into the experience which might just change your mind!

First of all, they now offer a specially narrated kid’s version of the audio-guided tour which they control all by themselves. This kid-friendly version not only allows them to press all kinds of buttons (which for some reason is always entertaining) but it also keeps things much lighter and includes a lot of fun little facts that really kept my kids engaged.

Next, if you go to the Family Fun section of the Biltmore website, you will find a downloadable PDF treasure hunt, designed just for them, that you can print out and take on your visit…Score!

Finally, this home was built in 1895 and has 250 rooms, including a bowling alley and an huge indoor swimming pool and it’s just plain awesome! My kids kept saying things like, “I wish I lived here! Wouldn’t it be cool to play hide-and-seek?” or “Wow! Look at all the books in this library.” In a nutshell I think it’s safe to say that this castle is extremely impressive no matter what your age.

Antler Hill Village

As far as I’m concerned Antler Hill Village was pure bliss. Only a short drive from the Biltmore house, here you will find a multitude of activities to please both the young and the young at heart. The gazebo area offers ice cream and live music, and the winery even provides grape juice samples for kids. On the working farm, kids can pet animals like chickens, goats and horses, and glassblowers and blacksmiths demonstrate their crafts.

In Antler Hill Village, you’ll also find the Pisgah Playground featuring some sand and water activities and plenty of open areas for the kids to run off a little steam. My kids also really enjoyed playing with the toys from the early 1900’s, climbing on the tractors and scouring through all the treasures in the gift shop. No doubt about it, this area gets a two thumbs up!

The Grounds & Gardens and Extras

The Biltmore Estate offers plenty of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Hike through America’s first managed forest or on 2 1/2 miles of trails through manicured gardens. Literally stop and smell the roses in the breathtaking rose garden that features over 250 varieties of the beloved flower. The grounds and gardens of the Biltmore Estate are truly magnificent.

For an extra fee you can even rent bikes, go on a horse or carriage ride, take a fly fishing lesson or go on a float down the peaceful Broad River on their River Float trip. Yes, there is literally is a plethora of outdoor adventure that awaits!
