Celebrating Special Events on Vacation

Posted in Tips | by

What better way to enjoy your family milestones than by celebrating special events on vacation! With a little advance planning, you can create memories on the road that your family will cherish for years.

3 Tips When Staying at Hotels for Special Occasions

1. Why celebrate at hotels for special occasions?

A hotel is more than a place to rest your head. It is your home away from home. Whether trying out a new property or returning to an often visited one, you can make the visit one to remember. Without leaving the hotel, you can create memories with the plethora of activities many properties offer. Make dinner reservations for a special meal or visit the onsite spa to treat yourself and your family to facials, massages, or nail treatments.

2. What is appropriate to celebrate?

Everything! We have celebrated birthdays, Christmas, back-to-school shopping, and school holidays in various locations. Sometimes, we just celebrate sleeping late on a weekend! Invite extended family members to meet at a centrally located property to celebrate a holiday or just spend time together.

3. How to get help with your celebration

When we travel near a special event, I prepare in advance. Call the hotel and ask to speak with the concierge. The concierge acts as your feet on the ground before you get to town. If we visit a new area, I always contact the concierge a few days before arriving. Giving him ample lead time will help you get the information you need. The concierge truly wants to help you make your stay special and memorable.

When celebrating at hotels for special occasions, contact the concierge ahead of time to plan special treats!

I’m no stranger to the concierge at most hotels we visit. For instance, the concierge at Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre provided me with detailed information about local restaurants, including menu options, and scheduled hotel transportation to one restaurant and back to the hotel after dinner.

The concierge at Hilton Madrid Airport offered detailed descriptions of and directions to sites we might be interested in visiting and even scored me dinner reservations at a restaurant that usually requires several weeks notice. The concierge at Hilton President Kansas City had detailed itineraries of local events and tourist sites, including some discount coupons.

The concierge at Hilton Austin left us the information we needed about navigating the food truck scene in Austin, including a sample of some cupcakes. He also put board games in our room for the girls to borrow during our visit.

Most recently, I called the concierge at Hilton Dallas Park Cities and asked for an anniversary card to be left in our room for my husband at check-in. Much to our surprise and delight, he received the card, and we enjoyed some treats left in the room to celebrate.
