Get the Most Out of Your Vacation: Select a Room with a View
One thing that I have come to really appreciate through all of my travels is the little moments. You book a trip based on the bigger adventures on your bucket list, but the actual hotel experience can greatly affect the success of your trip as well. If you have any wiggle room in your budget, I strongly recommend considering a hotel room upgrade to ensure that every moment can be spent soaking in the beauty around you!
One of my favorite trip memories was our stay at the wonderful Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa. We visited for the 4th of July and upon checking in, I made one simple request: a view of the fireworks. Our room was fantastic. We had a wonderful little patio with a lovely view of the bay.
As you can see, our day time view of the bay turned into a front row seat of one of the most spectacular firework shows that I have ever seen.
Quite often, there will be no additional charges for requesting certain rooms or views. Depending on your location, it might be worth considering a room upgrade for a change of scenery. This may cost you more, but it all plays into the experience that you want from your vacation.
Here’s a peek at our room in an Ocean Front Suite at Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort (room 302 to be specific). You can watch a longer video of the entire suite here, but this quick glimpse at the balcony and view should give you an idea of the beautiful view and how amazing it is:
Sometimes getting the best view is as simple as requesting it at check-in. Most hotels won’t actually select your room until you arrive, so this is the perfect opportunity to request the best view possible. It never hurts to ask and I have found that hotel staff will usually go out of their way to try to fulfill such requests.
5 Factors to consider when deciding on a hotel room upgrade
Are you traveling with small children?
If you are, you may enjoy a pool front or beach front room for easy access to play areas for the kids. These types of rooms make it very convenient to enjoy outdoor activities and allow for quick re-entry into your hotel room.
Will you be staying onsite for most of your vacation or will you be leaving the resort?
If you are spending most of your time on property, then you may want to consider spending the extra money for a better view. Sometimes, the actual view is part of your vacation. If your trip will be spent in theme parks or out adventuring, then your view may become less of a financial priority.
Length of your stay.
Your upgrade obviously becomes more expensive the longer that you stay. If your vacation is a quick one, that extra gorgeous sunset in the evening may be just what you need to put the perfect touch on your quick getaway.
What is the purpose of your vacation?
Are you headed out for a fast-paced family adventure of theme park visits or are you looking to spend some quiet time on the beach reading a good book? If the latter, you may enjoy spending some of that time in the presence of beautiful scenery.
What is your budget?
This one is a big factor and also an important one. Vacations need not break the bank, and going over budget is the quickest way to take the fun out of a vacation. If you have some room in your budget to throw in some extras, a beautiful view of the evening sunset may be where you want to put your extra dollars.
Just remember, it’s your vacation! Make sure to consider what you are looking to get out of it when deciding how much money to put into it!
