6 Holiday Gift Ideas for Travelers
Just in case you’ve been more interested in where your family is traveling next year than completing your holiday shopping, here are 6 great travel gift ideas that you can put under the tree for the traveler in your life.
An obvious choice would be to book a weekend getaway or something even longer for you family. We’ve all seen the videos of kids opening Disney-related gifts and being surprised to find out they’re headed to see Mickey Mouse. Big vacations are great, but even a night out at a local hotel can be fun and exciting, especially if you live in a cold climate and the hotel has a heated indoor pool. If you’re not sure when or where your traveler might want to go, get an airline gift card or a Hilton Honors gift card so they have options on the details.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite
Gone are the days when you lug around actual books while traveling. If the traveler in your life can read and doesn’t already have an Amazon Kindle, then this is a slam dunk gift. And if they do already have one, consider Amazon gift cards and personalize the gift with a list of suggestions for great vacation reads or interesting books about an upcoming destination.
Travel Memory Book
This summer I went on a fantastic girls’ trip to San Francisco. One of the girls on the trip collected all of our photos and surprised each of us with a photo book from that trip. This takes a little time and effort, but it’s basically guaranteed to be the best gift at the party. I know this photo book is already one of my favorite gifts this year!
Rather than picking up a generic piece of luggage at a department store, get something suitable for the traveling style of your recipient. A Trunki ride-on case is fun for little kids; Eagle Creek’s DoubleBack 26 is a good option for active travelers; or the Briggs & Riley TORQ carry on suitcase is stylish and sleek for business travelers. The latter two suggestions are in a higher price range but do come with lifetime warranties.
If you know your gift recipient has an upcoming trip, you might consider adding something for them to experience while on vacation. For example, book a swim with the dolphins or a couples massage to make their time away even more memorable.
Kids activity books or travel-size games are great economical gifts. These are useful for long car trips or airplane rides and might keep the adults entertained as well as the kids.
