Why Our Family Loved Hilton Orlando
Our family recently returned from a short vacation in Orlando, Florida. Being a part of the Hilton Mom Voyage team motivated me to try one of the Hilton properties in the area and, after a bit of a research, I selected Hilton Orlando, due to its location and the impressive looking pool area.
While the hotel is perhaps best known by business travelers, especially given its proximity to the Orlando Convention Center, I realized during our stay that there is so much more to Hilton Orlando. In fact, it is a great choice for families who come here for a quick weekend getaway, as well as a longer visit.
Here are the reasons why our family loved Hilton Orlando:
Hilton Orlando is in a great location! It’s less then 20 minutes away from the Orlando International Airport and situated along Orlando’s famous International Drive, which boasts great shopping, numerous restaurants and many entertainment options.
Best of all, families who are in town to visit one of Orlando’s world famous theme parks (who isn’t?) should know that Hilton Orlando is centrally-located among all of them. Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, Sea World (along with its waterpark Aquatica as well as the Discovery Cove theme park), and Wet’n Wild waterpark are all just a short ride away. For example, our taxi ride to Universal took about 15 minutes and cost less than $20 one way.
Wide Range of Dining Options
Hilton Orlando has six (!) restaurants on its premises as well as 24-hour room service for their guests. We were impressed with the amazing variety of restaurants at Hilton Orlando, which range from super-casual poolside fare at the Tropics Bar & Grill to their sophisticated steak house, Spencer’s.
Our family loved the on-the-go oriented Marketplace, a great place to grab a quick, but delicious breakfast and a cup of Starbucks before you head out to the parks for a long day of fun. If you are in less of a hurry or want a more substantial breakfast, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet at The Bistro.
The Marketplace also offers a nice range of gourmet sandwiches and salads and an impressive variety of “on-the-go” convenience items, which are perfect for families who spend a big part of their day away from the property. The best offering of Marketplace, however, is the gelato bar, which is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face!
Incredible Pool Area
The pool area at Hilton Orlando made our children scream with joy as soon as we arrived, and my husband and I sighed happily. (This wasn’t just because at the time our neighbors in Chicago were shoveling snow from their driveways.) Just the sheer size of the pool was remarkable, but the really exciting parts were the giant water slide, impressive lazy river and a towering fountain.
Our son also loved the basketball nets in the pool where he played with other young hotel guests for hours allowing me to relax in the warm Florida sun. (Did I mention it was snowing that day in Chicago?) Parents of small children will appreciate the zero-depth access on one side. All in all, we could have happily spent several days here, but the pool was also a real treat each day when we came “home” from the parks.
The fun at Hilton Orlando doesn’t stop with the pool. There are plenty of other options to keep guests, big and small, entertained and occupied: foosball and pool tables, full size basketball and tennis courts, bocce and even a putting green. The hotel also has special activities for kids on most weekends. What made our visit especially memorable for our own children, however, were the two giant pool side fire pits where we roasted marshmallows and made s’mores at night as a sweet ending to our day.
Fitness Center and Spa
Hilton Orlando has also a very impressive health club, both in terms of size and a the variety of modern fitness equipment it offers. Its location next to the pool is another plus: admiring the lovely palm leaves gently swaying in the breeze outside the windows made my 30 minute treadmill run fly by.
What vacation would be complete without a spa! The spa at Hilton Orlando offers a wide range of standard spa services including manicures and pedicures, facials and a variety of massages and body treatments. I “only” had a chance to enjoy a deep tissue massage, but I can confidently say that it was one of the best ones I have ever had. Tip: Ask for Garrett and use the lemongrass essential oil!
Lastly, our family couldn’t overlook the outstanding service we received from many different team members at Hilton Orlando. A security guard helped my husband with a demagnetized card key and then unexpectedly brought s’mores packets for our kids who were at the fire pit impatiently waiting with me. (Who could possibly wait for s’mores patiently?)
Another time, a spa employee giving free chair massages to guests in the lobby area suddenly left only to reappear with ice-cream for our children, on the house, after he overheard their disappointment over the fact that the gelato bar at the Marketplace was closed for freezer maintenance that afternoon. (It happens!)
Finally, a Bistro waiter, Levis, went out of his way to bring us freshly brewed Starbucks lattes (skim!) from two floors above the restaurant. (He wasn’t even our waiter and we never even asked!)
During our stay, we heard from several hotel guests that they keep coming back to Hilton Orlando every time they vacation in the area with their families. After our short, but highly enjoyable stay, I can certainly understand why. Thank you for a great experience, Hilton Orlando. We will be back!
