The Waterfront Beach Resort Review: Incredibly Pet- and Family-Friendly
Surfers, pristine coastline, sandy beaches, and balmy weather are the hallmarks of the classic Southern California experience. And there’s no need to look further than the home of the Surfer’s Hall of Fame in order to find them at Huntington Beach, the location of the U.S. Open of Surfing. If you’re planning a getaway here, my family highly recommends that you check into The Waterfront Beach Resort, a Hilton Hotel.
Lovely, simple, and elegant all at once, much like a day at the beach, this resort is a breath of fresh air. The interior furnishings in hues of blues and greens extend the feeling of the ocean just across the beach from the resort. The smell of ocean air wafts through hallways where the walls are adorned with art that features turtles, ocean waves, sunsets, and all that is glorious about life at the beach.
Is your interest piqued? Good, because this is just the beginning of what there is to love about this place.
FABULOUS BEACH LOCATION
Huntington State Beach is just across the street from the Waterfront Beach Resort and downtown Huntington Beach is just a short walk away. Filled with fun places to shop for surf wear, sidewalk cafés, and home of the Surfer’s Hall of Fame, it’s a fun place to people watch.
Be sure to take a walk on the Huntington Beach Pier while you’re there. Stretching 1,850 feet into the Pacific Ocean, this iconic landmark is part of surfing lore in the area due to the bird’s eye view it provided to the surf riding demonstration conducted by legendary Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku in the waves alongside it. It’s not just a great place to spot surfers, it’s one heck of a place to savor some spectacular sunsets.
The Waterfront Beach Resort is all about being outside. The rooms have private balconies, many with ocean views. The pool area is spacious and comfortable with plenty of seating, definitely a place where families want to hang out. Poolside cabana service is available. We even enjoyed taking a dip at night with the glow of lights strung up above our heads in the palm trees. The pool area also proved to be a great place to watch the sun drop down behind the horizon painting the sky with color as it went.
If your family includes a four-legged friend, you’re in luck here because this hotel is dog-friendly. Dogs are allowed in the rooms as well as the hallways and around the pool as long as they’re on a leash. There is even doggie room service! We loved having our dog with us, although she became quite the diva on this trip due to all of the pampering.
Guests have access to sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, a fitness center, bike rentals, and complimentary boogie boards and beach equipment. Hilton’s Waterfront Adventures, located conveniently across the street from the resort, can help coordinate surfing lessons, kayak tours or the most classic Southern California beach experience — the bonfire. Imagine experiencing a bonfire on the beach without having to drag all of the supplies needed out to the sand or going through the arduous process of setting up or even starting your bonfire! Waterfront Adventures sets everything up. They even supply drinks and all the makings for s’mores. You simply need to show up and claim a seat!
DELICIOUS & CONVENIENT RESTAURANTS
The main restaurant at The Waterfront Resort, Shades offers both indoor and outdoor fine dining in a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The views are stunning, and the food is delicious. Whether you are stopping in for a drink, an appetizer or full meal, you’ll want to linger for a while, especially if the patio fire pit is blazing.
SURF HERO MARKET
This little market is filled with all sorts of surprises. Pick up gifts or souvenirs attesting to your time in the original Surf City, load up on snacks, get coffee or other drinks, and even get a light breakfast before heading out to the beach — all at the Surf Hero Market.
EPIC SUNRISES & SUNSETS
The most gorgeous features of The Waterfront Beach Resort are the dazzling sunrises and sunsets. When we were awake to enjoy it, the sun crept up over the horizon in the mornings, extending hints of its lighting magic across the ocean waters. At night though, that big ball exploded splashing hues of oranges and yellows everywhere — on the sky, the water, the sand!
So what are you waiting for? Pack up the kids and the dog and get out to Huntington Beach!
