Visiting Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia
My family spent time in Vancouver around an Alaskan cruise, and it was a great opportunity for my children to explore the city. If you are visiting Vancouver with children, your first stop should be Stanley Park. Stanley Park is located in downtown Vancouver near the cruise port, Canada Place. You can spend days exploring everything there is to do at this huge urban park. Here are my favorite places to visit with kids at Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Vancouver Aquarium: This is the largest aquarium in Canada. My kids loved seeing the beluga whales, dolphins and sea lions as well as the hundreds of fish. The Vancouver Aquarium is very well done and was my children’s first requested stop.
Stanley Park Miniature Train: The train takes you through tunnels and the forest on a relaxing ride. It takes adults too!
Seawall and Beaches: You can rent bikes and circle Stanley Park on the seawall path. We walked the path and stopped at the beaches along the way.
Stanley Park Totem Poles: After seeing so many in Alaska, my kids had formed an appreciation for totem poles. They liked to see if they could figure out the stories the totem poles told.
Prospect Point: This area offers beautiful views of the harbor, mountains and Lion’s Gate Bridge. This is also a nice place to stop for lunch. We ate at an outdoor café that had something for everyone. If your kids ask for ice cream, this is the place to stop!
Hop on Hop off Trolley: This narrated trolley tours the park continuously and you can get on and off as many times as you please. It stops at all of the popular attractions and is a fun way for kids to see the park.
We could have spent more time in the park hiking the trails and exploring the park. There is so much to do and see at Stanley Park in Vancouver so allow plenty of time in your schedule.
When visiting the city, stay at Hilton Vancouver Metrotown or Hilton Vancouver Airport. Both hotels are accessible to Stanley Park via SkyTrain. We used SkyTrain to travel from Canada Place to the airport and it was a great adventure in itself!
