Top Things to do in Sydney, Australia with Kids
Sydney may seem like a busy city, but luckily for kids it is one big playground, too. Sydney was our last stop on our trip to New Zealand and Australia and we felt that we saved the best for last. Sydney and the surrounding area are exciting to explore and filled with plenty of activities for kids. Here are my tips for activities in Sydney with kids.
5 Favorite Sydney Attractions for Families
Filled with shopping, restaurants, and activities, Darling Harbour was our first stop in Sydney. Visit SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife Sydney Zoo, or the Australian National Maritime Museum. The largest IMAX in the world is also located here. Kids will love the playgrounds around Darling Harbour and the Ferris wheel as well.
Taronga Zoo overlooks Sydney Harbour. It is just a 12-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay, which makes it easy to fit into touring plans. Purchase zoo tickets at the Wharf 4 ticket booth before getting on the ferry and ride the Sky Safari from the wharf to the zoo entrance, or save 20% by purchasing tickets online.
Bondi Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world, located just a few miles from Sydney. Take the public bus out from Circular Quay for a beautiful day trip. After arriving in Bondi Beach, stroll the boardwalk and shops then take the 6 km walk from Bondi to Coogee Beach. The cliffs, pools and coastline are stunning.
Take the ferry to Manly Beach at sunset. The view of the harbour is fantastic, and Manly Beach offers great shopping and restaurants to visit in the evening.
Hop off the ferry at Milsons Point. Kids will enjoy seeing Luna Park, but the main attraction is the view of the harbour. The Sydney Bridge and Opera House in the background make this stop a picture perfect opportunity.
Where to Stay in Sydney
Hilton Sydney is located in the middle of the Central Business District. Walk to Sydney Harbour, Darling Harbour, or use the efficient train system by hopping on at nearby Town Hall Station. Hilton Sydney is located near great shopping and restaurants as well.
Using Sydney Transport with Kids
Use the public ferries to tour the harbour. They are fast, frequent, and inexpensive. Purchase an Opal card online or at many convenience stores. For a max daily spend of $15.40 AUD for adults and $7.70 AUD for kids 15 and under, it is a bargain.
The only location not included in the max spend is the airport. Opal cards are valid for trains, ferries, buses, and light rail. Initial Opal cards are not sold at train stations, but can be reloaded as needed at the station.
