Fun Things to do with Kids in Cocoa Beach, FL
Of course you’ll want to spend time relaxing and playing on the beach, but there are some other fun activities in the area as well.
NASA Kennedy Space Center
A really unique experience is visiting NASA Kennedy Space Center. Kennedy Space Center is NASA’s launch headquarters and it has been used for every NASA space flight with humans since 1968. It is a working launch area but also includes an extensive visitor’s complex with a museum, real rockets and tours. It is not a theme park or a kid-focused museum, but there are many kid-friendly exhibits and my 8 and 5 year olds thought it was fascinating.
One of their favorite experiences was the Shuttle Launch Experience which simulates a shuttle launch! You need to be 44″ to ride so my daughter, and I watched from an observation room and she still felt like a part of the experience. Included with admission is a bus tour of the complex and space shuttle launch pads. It is self guided and you can get on and off the bus at any stops you choose. Once you’re done touring, you can end your day playing at the Children’s Play Dome….an “out of this world” playspace.
There were several cafeteria style places to eat on site which is great because you will want to spend at least half a day here. They even have a special “Lunch with an Astronaut” program where you can meet a real astronaut and ask questions. This needs to be reserved in advance so we did not get to do it on our visit but I’ll book it for next time. Find out even more specifics about hours and prices at www.kennedyspacecenter.com.
Orlando Theme Parks
Cocoa Beach is only about an hour away from Orlando, so you could base yourself at the beach and make a day trip to one of the local amusement parks. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a good park that can be done in less than a day. Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Sea World would also be good choices that would allow you to visit most of the park but still drive back and spend the night at the beach.
Whether you’re looking for a spring break destination or planning a vacation for this summer, you’ll find an assortment of things to do with kids in Cocoa Beach, FL.
