Things to Do in New York City Near Times Square

I don’t like the term “bucket list.” I think it makes me sound old. I have a “dream list” and one of the top things on my list was to spend the holidays in New York City. There are so many things to do in New York City. A lot of luck and a little planning made it possible. We stayed at Hilton Times Square and definitely checked this one off my dream list.

Hilton Times Square is in the best location in New York City. You can see all of Times Square right from the hotel sky lobby. We even had a perfect view of the New Year’s ball. They were testing it many times during our stay so the kids had fun doing multiple countdowns. Getting around the city is easy with Hilton Times Square as a base. The subway station is directly outside the hotel. We only took the wrong train once and luckily there was a very nice man that took the time to walk us to the right stop. New Yorkers are some of the nicest people I have ever met!

During our short three day visit, we took a harbor cruise to see the Statue of Liberty, visited the 9/11 memorial, toured Rockefeller Square, played in the newly fallen snow in Central Park and spent many hours at the American Museum of Natural History. We saw Rexy from Night at the Museum!

My kids will also tell you some highlights of their trip were riding the ferris wheel inside the three story Toys R Us in Times Square, the American Girl store, FAO Schwartz, the holiday windows at Bloomingdales and the Lego store in Rockefeller Center. The city was lit in beautiful Christmas lights and decorations.

New Year’s Eve in Times Square was everything I had imagined. If you want to be in the square to see the ball drop though, it is not easy.  You must go through security and then are placed in an area and are not permitted leave, even for a restroom break. The people you see in Times Square on New Year’s Eve are tough! We were able to walk by the blocked off areas to see the excitement and then return to the fabulous Hilton Times Square and watch it from the window.

The entire staff of Hilton Times Square will make your stay perfect. Each and every person from the doorman to the sweet woman who gave us chocolates at turn down went above and beyond. My dream list has another check mark on it. I am so thankful we got to see New York City during the holidays and be in the middle of it all at Hilton Times Square.
