Weekend Getaway to Raleigh, NC with Kids
We live in a very small town in North Carolina, so when we need to do major shopping, be it Christmas or back-to-school, we make the trip to Raleigh. Recently, we had the opportunity to stay at Hilton North Raleigh / Midtown while we visited the city.
Things to do in Raleigh, NC
The city of Raleigh is named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who history buffs will remember as the man who established what became the Lost Colony. North Carolina’s capital city is centrally located about 200 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 130 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.
Lovers of college basketball know it’s home to North Carolina State University and a short distance from the other two Tobacco Road schools: Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Raleigh’s PNC Arena serves as home base to the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. Those in business will recognize Raleigh as part of the Research Triangle Park.
You’ll want to check out the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, where you can catch the North Carolina Symphony or the Carolina Ballet. If your taste runs toward museums, nearby is the North Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
Raleigh Hotel with a Great Location and Spacious Rooms
Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown is located near the downtown area and mere minutes to my favorite sport: shopping. If you’re flying into Raleigh, the hotel has a complementary airport shuttle, you just need to call to arrange pickup. We checked in on a Friday afternoon, ready to knock out our back-to-school lists. The line at the front desk wasn’t crowded even though we saw evidence of the hotel hosting two events.
The four of us stayed in two adjoining rooms: a King Junior Suite and a Two Double Bed guest room. We’ve never booked adjoining rooms before, but we really liked the setup. Our kids are at the age where everything takes forever and it was so nice having two bathrooms. They enjoyed the arrangement because they had their own space and their own beds.
Nearby Raleigh Restaurants
We ate breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant, Lofton’s. Our hands-down favorite item was the cinnamon roll French toast. It’s made with actual pieces of cinnamon roll instead of bread and is OMG good. The eggs Benedict and yogurt parfait were also tasty, but nothing came close to the French toast.
The Bahama Breeze restaurant is also within walking distance of the hotel. Serving seafood, beef, and poultry cooked with a Caribbean flavor, this popular eatery also has live music.
Raleigh Shopping Malls
We shopped at both Triangle Town Center and Crabtree Valley Mall and were able to check everything off our school supply list. Because the hotel is located near everything you’d want, we were also able to take in a movie on Saturday.
Next time you head to Raleigh, make sure you stay at Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown for location, service, and comfort.
