Things to do in Las Vegas with Kids

Posted in Articles | by

My kids had been asking to go to Las Vegas ever since they saw the miniature replica at Legoland. They thought it sounded so fun to travel around the world by going down a single street. Las Vegas is a playground for adults, but it also has so much for kids. If a family vacation to the entertainment capital of the world is in your future, here are some fun things to do in Las Vegas with kids.

Animals

The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay was the first stop for us. The exhibit starts in the jungle with crocodiles and pythons. You then make your way underground to a shipwreck aquarium filled with multiple species of sharks. We stopped at the stingray touch pool and were in awe of the jellyfish display. Mandalay Bay is at the end of the strip, but take the free monorail from Excalibur and it will add another attraction for the kids.

If dolphins are on the list, visit the Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. You can see white lions, tigers and dolphins all in a beautiful habitat. The exhibit closes at 5 pm, so head out front to view the volcano that erupts each night. My son loved seeing the fire and explosions from the huge display.

Rollercoasters

There are more than enough thrill rides in Las Vegas to challenge any daredevil. The Adventuredome at Circus Circus is filled with coasters, but my daughter could not wait to head to the top of Stratosphere where three different rides sit over 1,000 feet above the strip. I braved the BigShot with my daughter and was ready to go again. If any family members are not as brave, have them ride with you the observation deck to look at the Las Vegas skyline behind the safety of the glass.

Another favorite roller coaster is The Big Apple Coaster at New York New York. The coaster is long and fast. Not only does it go upside down, it also twists as you go through the New York skyline. After the coaster, you can try your luck at the adjoining arcade. This huge arcade has the typical games as well as the largest selection of claw machines I have ever seen. Las Vegas has ways to get money from all ages!

See a Show

There are plenty of kid friendly shows in Las Vegas.  Check out the show websites for deals and age restrictions. We chose The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage. Beatles music is on every playlist at my house, so I knew it would be a good choice. It was amazing! The show incorporates typical Cirque du Soleil stunts with fun and exciting feats that wowed my family.

Exploring the Casinos

Get up early with your family. While the rest of Las Vegas slept, we walked in to empty casinos and didn’t have to wait in line to see any attractions. We went to the top of the Eiffel Tower, toured the Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio and went to M&M’s World without the crowds. I used the Las Vegas casino map applicaton to navigate the area. End your touring in early evening and escape to Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa for perfect relaxation with your family. Located just outside of the city, the resort offers a free shuttle to and from the strip.
