Spend the day at Las Caletas Beach Hideaway in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
I dream of beaches, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of our normal busy lives. For clarification, I simply love the beach regardless of how I arrive to it. But hidden beaches, the ones not accessible by car, those are the beaches that my dreams are made of. These are also the beaches that I don’t encounter very often, so when researching tours for my family to enjoy in Puerto Vallarta, the Las Caletas Beach Hideaway excursion offered by Vallarta Adventures caught my eye.
Las Caletas is only accessible by sea. And what could be better than climbing aboard a modern catamaran and allowing trained professionals to not only get you there safely, but also feed and entertain you along the way? Shortly after we boarded the catamaran, the crew offered us fabulous pastries and refreshing juices as we set sail. Between the beautiful scenery along the coast of the Banderas Bay and entertainment complete with lively skits from the crew, the hour long sail flew by.
The first thing you notice on arrival to Las Caletas is the calm, clear water in this isolated cove and the beautiful beach against a mountain of tropical foliage. We were greeted by local costumed dancers and smiling staff members holding reptiles and beautiful birds. (Note: the beautiful birds were more my calling than the reptiles.) In the distance, preparations were underway for a traditional Mexican breakfast, and we quickly found our way to enjoy the feast. I also found the first of many glasses of the most refreshing lemonade that I have ever had. It reminded me more of limeade, but regardless, it was incredible.
There are activities at Las Caletas for every member of your family to enjoy. You can choose to relax on the beach, visit the spa, snorkel, kayak, and scuba, take a paella cooking lesson, get up close with the parrots and swim with a sea lion and all of this before lunch. Then, after lunch relax, enjoy and repeat the above. We chose to take part in the Kid’s Adventure Park which included face painting, riding donkeys, zip lining and learning about monkeys. Tip: To get from place to place sometimes involves walking along rocky paths and up steep steps, so keep this in mind when choosing your footwear for the day.
The Las Caletas Excursion is an all-inclusive day trip that includes: Continental breakfast, lunch, open bar, snorkeling and kayak equipment, guided nature walks, parrot, reptile and monkey encounters, cooking lessons and the Kids Adventure Park. Spa treatments, scuba and interaction with the sea lions are an additional charge.
At the end of the day, smiles were on everyone’s faces and this proved to be one of our favorite excursions during our stay at Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort.
