Road Trip: GRAMMY Playlist
Let’s talk tunes, shall we?
Or more specifically, Music’s Biggest Night®. I have a confession which probably won’t be a shock to many, but the GRAMMY Awards® is MY Super Bowl. OK, so not in a Tom Brady kinda way, but in a celebration of everything I love and adore all under one roof kinda way. We’re still a few days out and I’m already bursting at the seams with excitement for this year’s ceremony.
a person with an obsessive interest in and enthusiasm for something.
For starters, I’m a music fanatic and this fangirl (a.k.a. recovering music snob) gets to see all of her favorite acts on one stage performing and receiving accolades for the contributions that made me so happy for the last year. I love seeing people celebrated for their accomplishments, not to mention the glitz and the glam of the red carpet. I mean who could forget that gorgeous metallic Gucci gown Taylor Swift rocked or Madonna’s grill and cane? I cannot wait to see what Gaga is shows up in and on. I remember an egg one year and a horse another. I think raw meat and Kermit dolls have also been involved at some point as well.
This weekend to kick-off the festivities, I’ll head up to Staples Center at L.A. Live as I’ve been cordially invited behind-the-scenes backstage to see what all of the presenters and nominees will bring home at the Official GRAMMY Gifting Suite.
You never know who you’ll be rubbing elbows with at this yearly tradition. Let’s just hope by the grace of all that is holy it’s not Sir Paul. Could you imagine? OH. EM. GEE. I would die. As in D-U-N-Z-O. Kaput. But I always love running into the guys from Foo Fighters so something like that would be fun.
The GRAMMY Museum
At some point, my daughter and I will walk over to the GRAMMY Museum because it’s another city gem where you never know who you’ll run into during award season. I imagine our convos would sound a little something like:
“Oh, hiya, Queen Bey! Girl, great Super Bowl. Loved Formation…”
“Hey there, Tay Tay — Is that your new ’do? So on fleek. Any room left on your squad?”
“Where’ve ya been, Kanye? Send my love to Kim and the kids.”
OK, so maybe that’s only kinda sorta true. I did see Kanye there once. And Lady Gaga once. And Dave Matthews another time. You get the picture. Regardless, The GRAMMY Museum is a great way to get in the mood for the big event because the vibe is electric. They are also in the middle of an incredible Frank Sinatra exhibit I’m chomping at the bit to see.
I just took a look at the confirmed performers, and man, we are in for some big treats. HUGE. So buckle up and enjoy the ride because not only is Taylor Swift opening the show, but we’re in store for one heck of a diva battle because are you ready? Adele AND RiRi are both performing. Let’s file this under: #HelloBetterHaveMyMoney.
And the cast of Hamilton is performing!!! That alone is worth the exclamation point abuse I’m clearly guilty of committing. I am OBSESSED right now with Hamilton and you can bet your lucky stars that my next trip to NYC will find me Broadway bound, front row center for multiple nights. Perhaps they need back-up clappers? Let-Me-Dream people!
But I predict the performance bound to be above and beyond all the other performances will be Lady Gaga’s tribute to our beloved White Duke, David Bowie. Just as Jennifer Hudson beautifully honored Whitney Houston with a performance of I Will Always Love You, the Recording Academy hand-picked the best artist to capture what David Bowie meant to everyone in that room, let alone the universe. Thank you, Starman.
This Is My Jam – 2016 GRAMMY Playlist
But what about after the show? Once the confetti falls, the gowns are returned and the artists hole themselves up in studios with hopes of catching lightning in a bottle?
In celebration of Music’s Biggest Night, and of course Clive Davis’ annual pre-GRAMMY gala at our very own Beverly Hilton, here is a curated collection my favorite GRAMMY nominated songs and performances on one
mix tape playlist for you to stream on-the-go. Now you can move and groove until your heart’s content. I hope you enjoy the jam as much as I do!
