Instagram Scavenger Hunt: New York City Edition

Posted in Articles | by

When planning for our trip to New York City, I sat down with Kiddo, and we plotted out our course of Instagram action. When we visit cities, we like to document our travels on Instagram, and I like to think of IG as the 21st century version of postcards. I call my feed my personal “visual autobiography” because that’s exactly what it is, so I want to feature only the very best photo memories possible.

Having been born and raised in the New York area, I have a very strong bond with Manhattan. I absolutely love visiting, but it’s a place I only need to stay for a short time. How long? Well, our trips are just long enough to catch up with friends and tour the city showing Kiddo all the wonderful places I remember so we can discover them together for the first time.

New York Instagram Scavenger Hunt Checklist:

✔ Top of the Rock: For the most impressive 360º views of New York City, head to the 70-story Observation Deck where you can see unobstructed views of One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty.

✔ Empire State Building: I think this landmark is a given because it’s the only one that you can post without any words. This iconic building needs no introduction!

✔ Statue of Liberty: This National Park monument tops Kiddo’s list and is a place she’s wanted to visit for as long as I can remember.

✔ Strawberry Fields: This gem in Central Park pays tribute to the late John Lennon and ranks high on my list for obvious reasons.

✔ Bethesda Fountain: Another Central Park find is Bethesda Fountain. Every angle is fab, but the best is probably the view from the stairs where you can capture the lake as well.

✔ Washington Square Park: I have so many memories of New York City, but the famed arch in Washington Square Park is one I hope I never get tired of looking at.

✔ Rockefeller Center at Christmas: There is something about the tree and the ice skating rink in Rockefeller Center that captures everything special about this time of year.

✔ One World Observatory: For obvious reasons, a trip to NYC wouldn’t be complete without featuring the beloved One World Observatory. This tower is a symbol of everything that makes this city so special and an important reminder that we will honor all the people that lost their lives on the morning of September 11, 2001.

✔ The Whitney: A great spot for Instagram photos that tourists rarely take advantage of is on the terrace of the Whitney Museum. It’s where you will find stunning views and gorgeous sunsets in the summertime.

✔ The Oculus: Resembling something delivered courtesy of the future, the Oculus is the World Trade Center’s transportation hub which we have yet to visit! We’re very excited and can’t wait.

✔ Brooklyn Bridge: Wake up extra early on a Sunday morning and head towards Brooklyn to get the best shot of the bridge with the skyline.

Other New York Instagram-worthy spots to consider: Union Square Park, Little Italy’s LOVE wall street art, the Flatiron Building, New York City Public Library, The Met, Grand Central Station. I could go on and on so I feel a “Part Deux” coming soon!
