MOSH: One of the Best Things to do in Jacksonville, FL

Posted in Articles | by

For a break from the Florida heat or a fun family activity anytime of year, check out Jacksonville’s Museum of Science & History (MOSH). MOSH is an educational and entertaining destination for kids of all ages. From seeing the history of Florida to viewing a show in the country’s largest single-lens planetarium, there is something to inspire and educate everyone in the family. I recommend it as one of the best things to do in Jacksonville, FL with kids.

Favorite MOSH Exhibits

To learn about the sea creatures of the area, don’t miss Atlantic Tails, which focuses on the whales, dolphins and manatees who live in the waters of Northeast Florida. The exhibit JEA Powerplay uses interactive activities to teach kids about the science of sun, wind and nuclear energy. In Currents of Time, you have the chance to journey back in time to explore Florida’s wildlife over the years.

KidSpace is a great stop for kids ages 5 and under who need a break from exploring the museum. With a tree house and hands-on activities, it’s the perfect place to stop and play. There are also always special traveling exhibits on everything from dinosaurs to extreme weather.

Dinosaur fossils are part of one of the must-see traveling exhibits at MOSH.

MOSH Shows

The Bryan-Gooding Planetarium is one of the largest single-lens digital dome planetariums in the United States. There is a regular schedule of movies and live star shows shown each day including Sesame Street’s One World, One Sky which is perfect for younger kids.

If you’d like to see native Florida animals, there is a daily live animal show at 3 pm where you can meet and learn about local animals such as Box Turtles or Owls.

We love the Extreme Science Show which is offered daily and features explosions, experiments and volunteers from the audience. It’s loud, entertaining, and a great way to learn scientific theory in a fun way.

MOSH Tickets, Where to Park and Stay

Tickets are reasonably priced at $10 per adult and $6 per child. Unlike many large metro areas, you can park right next door to MOSH for free. There is not a restaurant in the museum, so we like to eat right next door at River City Brewing Company which overlooks the St. Johns River. A great place to stay in the area is Hilton Garden Inn Jacksonville Downtown Southbank, which is less than a mile from MOSH.

If you’re looking for an indoor family outing your whole family will enjoy, then check out the Museum of Science and History in downtown Jacksonville!
