3 Places to Catch Live Music in Nashville with Kids
Nashville’s music scene is always booming. From the hot honky-tonks on bustling Broadway to talented street buskers hoping to be discovered, there’s music around every corner. Kids and crowded bars can be a bad combo for many reasons, so what’s a country music lover traveling with kids in Music City to do? Here are three of my favorite places to catch live music in Nashville with kids.
3 Locations for Kid-Friendly Nashville, TN Concerts
1. Puckett’s Grocery
Puckett’s serves up Tennessee-style, slow cooked BBQ and live, local musical acts in a casual, family-friendly setting. Expect a lively yet seated crowd and appropriate volume levels for little ears. Check the calendar and make a dinner reservation to coincide with a musical appearance. Arrive early to request a table close to the small stage. You’ll be serenaded as you indulge on all your favorite Southern staples: think fried green tomatoes, cherry-smoked baby back ribs, and shrimp and grits. Save room for the skillet pecan cobbler!
500 Church St.
2. Country Music Hall of Fame
The 130,000 square feet Country Music Hall of Fame, located in heart of downtown Nashville’s arts and entertainment district, is dedicated to preserving the evolving history and traditions of country music. Education is a key component of its mission, and the museum invites families to discover and learn more about country music, past and present through engaging exhibits, hands-on programs and live music experiences for all ages.
Check out the Taylor Swift Education Center to see special artifacts and pick up fun gallery resources and activities that will make your visit all the more memorable for kids. Make a point of signing up for one of the many Youth and Family Programs which will give you the chance to not just listen to but experience country music by taking part in a family songwriting workshop, learning new dance moves, making music of your own with guitar basics and more. Check out the museum’s calendar and plan to visit during a live music performance, or even better, reserve your spots in an education program a few weeks before your planned visit date.
222 5th Ave. S.
3. Ryman Auditorium
Host to the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium is also known as the “Mother Church of Country Music.” This memorable venue has the second best acoustics in the world (after the Salt Lake Tabernacle in Utah) and has welcomed all the legends, from Loretta Lynn to Johnny Cash. Try to catch a live show here to hear the amazing acoustics in action. Seating is church-pew style, and the volume is never over-the-top. Die hard country music fans will want to take the backstage tour, where you’ll also have the chance to hit the stage with a guitar for an unforgettable photo op.
116 5th Ave. N.
