A Kid’s Perspective: Review of Home2 Suites San Antonio Riverwalk

Posted in Articles | by

Every year at Christmas we go to San Antonio to see the Riverwalk with its beautiful lights. This year, we chose to stay at Home2 Suites San Antonio Downtown – Riverwalk because it was new and I wanted to write a review about it.

When We Arrived

When we first saw the building from the street, it looked cool. It’s really interesting how the building was originally built in 1919 and now it’s a nice hotel. At this hotel there is an on-site valet so you don’t have to waste time looking for parking spots. They helped us unload our car which was super-helpful, and the doors opened automatically which was also helpful. Inside the hotel I saw all sorts of crazy colors which made me happy. Home2 has the best color theme.

When we checked in, it went smoothly and the lady at the front desk was nice. Once we told her our names she saw us in the computer and told us what our room number was. Earlier we had selected our room online which was fun and let us pick a high floor!

While we were in the elevator heading to our room, I noticed that there was no 13th floor, that’s creepy!

Outside of the elevators on our floor, there were architecture drawings from the original building which was interesting.

In the Room

In the room there were two SUPER comfy queen beds and a couch that can convert to a bed. The room also had a FULL-size kitchen with china, silverware, dishwasher, sink, microwave, and a fridge so you’ll never go hungry! The room included a big table with a roller chair to work at. In the shower there were cool shampoo and body wash dispensers and EXTRA fluffy towels. The Wi-Fi worked great and the GIANT TV had Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nickelodeon so you won’t miss any of your favorite shows.

Thank you Melissa for making our room nice.

Fun & Helpful Extras

Later, I went downstairs and looked at the onsite gym which is open 24/7, so you can exercise while you’re on the road. I tested the elliptical machine and the treadmills which all had TV screens, very fun.

Next, I checked out the snack center which I thought was really neat to grab snacks from, a lot of other hotels don’t have that feature. There were drinks in the refrigerator, and they gave us bottled water when we checked in. The snack center is open 24/7 which is convenient. It had ice cream, soda, candy, chips, toothpaste and Chap Stick. The main thing I wanted was popcorn but the hotel was out of it. However, there was a store across the street where I got some microwave popcorn.

Great Location on the San Antonio Riverwalk

That evening, my dad said we were going to the Riverwalk. It took only about five minutes to walk down to the Riverwalk! There are a ton of good restaurants along the Riverwalk and the most exciting part of the Riverwalk is the boat tours running around the San Antonio River. We had a great meal but as usual around the holidays, the boat tour lines were long and it took us a while to get to our boat.

Then, when it was around 9 pm we went back for the hotel and made a quick pit stop at a store for drinks and then walked across the street to the Home2.

Breakfast Time

The next morning we all slept in and went down to the lobby for breakfast. The breakfast area was soooooooooooooo crowded! There were people everywhere!

My favorite thing to do at Home2 is make waffles. I made a waffle and had lots of syrup, it was awesome. Because there were so many people, there was not a lot of food or seating by the time we got our breakfast. (Editor’s tip: When staying at a hotel that includes breakfast, you’ll often find smaller crowds and a better food selection when you get to the breakfast area during the earlier hours.)

A good feature for the grownups is that they have a place in the lobby called Coffee2Tea which serves hot water, coffee and tea 24/7. So anytime you come to the lobby, you can get your coffee.

Every Kid’s Favorite Part – The Hotel Pool!

After the breakfast craziness, we went up to our room and changed into our swim suits so my brother and I could swim in the pool. The pool was small, but it was indoors and heated so you can swim in December. The pool also had a color changing light in it so the water was different colors which was also cool.

Sadly there was no hot tub or slide, but my brother and I swam for a while anyway. And if you’re wondering why we were swimming so early, it is because the pool is open from 9 am to 10 pm. Then after swimming for a while, I’m sad to say this, but we checked out.

More Fun in San Antonio – The Witte Museum

Thankfully for us, the fun did not end there. We then drove to the Witte Museum in town which is a science/Texas history museum that takes about 10 minutes to drive to from the hotel. They have rock climbing, a building all about Texas history, and physical fitness interactive activities.

I had a great time at Home2 in San Antonio, and I was sad to leave but it’s nearby so we can come again. I hope to see you there soon!
