Hamilton: An American Musical on Tour
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, Hamilton has somehow infiltrated your every day life. I know it has mine, my daughter is so obsessed that not only can this fan-girl sing every single word of every single song, but she wrote about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s breakout Broadway hit play for her 4th grade research project.
All it takes is one listen before being hooked on Hamilton, so it makes complete sense why it’s near impossible to score a Golden Ticket for this three-time Tony award winning show. But the good news is the show is finally heading west stopping in the best towns like Chi-town, the City by the Bay, La La Land and Londontown in 2017.
The tickets are hotter than ever, but should you be one of the few chosen ones who were able to snag tickets through the on-sale, know oh, I don’t know maybe Lin-Manuel’s dentist, or have friends in high places, then congrats! You are high on my envy list, but I’m not going to hold that against you.
For those who have are still contemplating where and when to see this Broadway pop-culture phenomenon, I have the 411 to make planning a wee bit easier.
Where to stay? What to Do? How to score tickets to Hamilton?
The blockbuster musical is calling the newly named PrivateBank Theater home for its residency in the Windy City. Performances began in Fall 2016 and Hamilton tickets are on sale from Ticketmaster and other resellers through September 2017.
There are two things high on my Chi-town list to visit. The Art of Dr. Seuss Gallery on the Magnificent Mile is a family-friendly gallery that serves as a dedicated space for Dr. Seuss’s artwork. The Revival Food Hall offers local eats and craft cocktails in the restored historic 1907 Daniel Burnham building where 15 stalls feature neighborhood restaurants to try before the show.
Suggested hotel: Hilton Downtown Chicago
Not going to waste your shot in San Fran? I don’t blame you. It is by far one of the best cities in the U.S. I really hope you have enough time to see, do and eat as much as you can because the city is just that amazing.
Hamilton is headed to the SHN Orpheum Theater this spring. A limited number of seats are still available. But and this is a YUGE but, each day the venue will be releasing by lottery 44 tickets costing $10 each day of performance.
Suggested hotel: Hilton San Francisco Union Square
One of the shortest runs will be in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theater. The show will take stage August 2017 and end in December. Single tickets go on sale starting April 30, and blocks have been sold for the best seats in the house starting at $1,027 down to $236 for less desirable sections, securing this musical the title of “hottest ticket in town.” A lottery will be held for 40 $10 orchestra seats for all performances.
Suggested hotel: The Beverly Hilton
Those interested in traveling to London’s West End to take in Hamilton over Christmas better start planning now. With previews beginning in November 2017, the Hamilton Hype has already crossed the pond. The current allotment of tickets have all been sold. A note on the Ticketmaster website for the theatre states: “The producers hope to make further tickets available nearer the completion of the theatre’s refurbishment in early Autumn 2017.”
Once the show begins, it’s reported that the Victoria Palace Theatre will hold weekly and daily online lotteries. Daily lotteries will give theatre goers the chance to win £20 tickets for same day tickets, and weekly lotteries will offer opportunities to win £37.50 tickets to performances for the following week.
Suggested hotel: London Hilton on Park Lane
For those venturing to the birth place of Hamilton: An American Musical, Manhattan has so much to do and see. So much that I could easily write a post just on that! But if you are headed to the Big Apple just for a night or weekend getaway, make sure to carve out some time for dinner at Rao’s or Minetta Tavern for a burger and to stroll the High Line park.
Suggested hotel: New York Hilton Midtown
Other cities planned for the Hamilton U.S. Tour between 2017 and 2019 are: San Diego, Tempe, Seattle, Denver, Portland, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Houston, Costa Mesa, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Des Moines, Cleveland, Boston, Charlotte, Austin, Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Durham, Ft. Lauderdale, Greenville, Kansas City, Louisville, Memphis, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rochester, San Antonio, Schenectady, and Tulsa.
