Guided Iceland tour - Seljalandsfoss waterfall

See Iceland…All The Way

I don’t think you’ll be too surprised when I tell you that Iceland and its beautiful landscape provide an absolutely incredible adventure for families. It’s no exaggeration when I say that Iceland will definitely go down in the books as one of our top vacation destinations. In fact, although we’ve been, we still don’t want to cross it off the family bucket list. Yes, it’s that spectacular.

What you may not know about Iceland is that this country is vast and amazing, with literally tons and tons of natural wonders. But, unfortunately, some of those natural wonders aren’t all that easy to get to…unless, of course, you happen to have access to a huge, family-sized all-terrain vehicle, complete with its own generator to deflate and inflate the enormous tires, so you can off-road to the top of an ice cap, cross rivers and basically make your way to all the other awesome places. But, then you’d probably still need a knowledgeable guide to get you to all of these breathtaking locations.

Wait. You don’t have that? Well, guess again because I know just how to get you access to that vehicle and a spectacular guide who can show your family the things you’ve only dreamed about!

Don’t worry though…I also know that oftentimes taking a sightseeing tour with the family, especially the younger members, often proves to be a costly and less than thrilling experience. Believe me when I tell you, this is absolutely NOT the case when it comes to the premier and private guided tours offered by Iceland All The Way. In fact, I will even boast that this private tour company provided the most exciting, exhilarating and memorable excursion the Mancini clan has ever experienced, and here are just a few of the reasons we think your family should try them too!

This Time It’s Personal

From my very first contact with Stefan at Iceland All The Way, I knew this private Iceland tour would be a great fit for my family. He began our conversation by asking personalized questions about the ages of my children, whether we had ever been to Iceland and if anyone in my group needed special accommodations. After chatting and hearing what we wanted (a option not offered by most touring groups), he suggested we take the Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) tour. He went on to say that we would be traveling in a souped-up and tricked-out 4 x 4 Hummer that has the capability to conquer multiple terrains, and he would provide a personalized tour that was sure to impress us all. Yep, even my kids!

Well, he wasn’t kidding. I’m not sure words can express how wonderful it was to be traveling with only my family, in a private vehicle, not cramped on a big bus with a multitude of other travelers, and guided by a local outdoors man who knew all of Iceland like the back of his hand. This allowed us worry-free and private interaction as a family, and provided an open circle of unbelievably interesting communication with our expert guide, Stefan.

For example, while driving, we approached the volcano Eyjafjallajökull and, of course, as Floridians, we were fascinated with its snow-capped exquisiteness. With sheer exuberance we bantered back and forth with Stefan about how it would be so awesome to conquer that on our next visit. Well, he took a look, talked with a few other locals as we stopped to grab a few snacks for the journey, and then decided that the conditions where right to conquer it…immediately! What?!

He actually changed our tour mid-stream and decided to drive us up to the volcano’s crater (something that would never be possible on a standard group tour). And, this was an experience so breathtaking and utterly amazing, it will stay with us forever. To be quite honest, there are no words I’m familiar with that could actually describe this magnificent site.

We started at the bottom of a mountain with extremely rocky and dry terrain and after winding an climbing through aggressive landscape, ended up in a desert of winter wonderland. The ice and snow seemed to go on forever and appeared to have never been touched, except by our large tire tracks. It was, by all counts, the coolest thing I’ve ever done, and I mean that both literally and figuratively. Now I don’t know about you, but I believe that’s about as “personal” as personal can get!

Guided Iceland tour - On top of EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL ICE CAP

Our guided Iceland tour took us to the top of the Eyjafjallajökull ice cap before heading to the volcanic crater… an experience like never before!

Never A Dull Moment

As if conquering an almost untouched, snow covered terrain at the crater of volcano wasn’t enough, we came down and continued with our planned portion of the Thorsmork tour. Some of the other amazing things we experienced on this Iceland day tour were:

  • Seljalandsfoss, an incredible and mighty waterfall with a loop behind it. At this location he also took us to a much smaller but still very impressive waterfall that was tucked way back in another portion of the mountain. Something many visitors, especially those who come without a guide, never discover.
  • Gígjökull glacier tongue and a dried up lagoon bed from the aftermath of the famous eruption in 2010. Vast and magnificent!
  • Stakkholtsgjá, a stunningly beautiful canyon.
  • Básar in Goðaland, where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and then a short hike to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the area. He even took the kids on a slightly longer and more kid-friendly hike route, with our permission, of course, in order to give my husband and me a few minutes to experience the beautiful scenery alone. Priceless.
  • Crossing of several rivers…in our vehicle! Totally crazy and unbelievable, and a huge hit with the kids!

So Many Possibilities

Iceland All The Way offers a multitude of other Icelandic adventures that include everything from single day tours from Reykjavik, to multi-day excursions all across the Nordic island country. This  includes personalized and guided tours of awesome natural spectacles like the Northern Lights, the Westfjords, Reykjanes peninsula and much more, too. As I mentioned, they also offer personalized and customized trips to accommodate any timeframe and desired and available excursions. We dream about what we’ll conquer on our next trip!

Yes, the possibilities are endless and full of guaranteed excitement. When in Iceland, don’t miss it! Seriously. It is by far the most awesome thing we have ever experienced as a family.

My family did receive a discounted rate on our guided tour from Iceland All The Way, however, all opinions expressed here are truthful, accurate and 100% my own. Let’s also put it this way… honestly, if I ever have the opportunity to visit Iceland again, one of their adventures will definitely top my list, no matter what the price. Yes, it was that fantastic and one of the main reasons I want to return to Iceland!
