Moms’ Weekend Away: Fun Things to do in Palm Beach, FL
To keep Mom healthy, happy and productive, sometimes a little Moms’ trip away is in order, and there is no better place to relax and recharge than Palm Beach, FL. It’s a small piece of Florida’s southern coast with huge appeal. Based on a recent two-day trip away with fellow Moms, here are my recommendations for fun things to do in Palm Beach, FL.
Your 2-Night Itinerary of Fun Things to do in Palm Beach
4:00 pm – Checking in to Your Home Away from Home
To fully appreciate the Palm Beach area it is nice to stay on the beach at a hotel like Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront/Palm Beaches Resort where you can take full advantage of the Florida weather and beaches. The rooms at Hilton Singer Island all have balconies with views of the ocean or island, and the hotel has four miles of private beach and an outdoor heated pool and hot tub.
7:30 pm – Fresh and Healthy Dinner
The Palm Beach area is a mecca of fine dining, and there are numerous options for an evening out. One great choice is newcomer Avocado Grill in nearby West Palm Beach. Avocado Grill opened in late 2014, immediately became a local favorite, and was named Best New Restaurant 2014 by The Palm Beach Coast. The menu is fresh, caribbean-influenced and contains plenty of avocado. There is even an avocado margarita!
We shared a delicious assortment of small bites including Ginger Guacamole, Grilled Octopus, Seared Scallops and Butternut Squash Risotto. If you feel like dancing or people-watching, you can continue the evening around the corner on Clematis Street which is home to several South Beach-style nightclubs.
8:00 am – Brand New Day
Wake up and have a relaxing breakfast overlooking the ocean at Coconuts on the Beach at Hilton Singer Island. Then it’s time for a walk, run or bike ride along one of the many trails located on and around the hotel and island. With your workout out of the way, there is time to relax and read or chat on the beach.
1:00 pm – Lunch with the Ladies
For a true Palm Beach experience, I suggest lunch at Ta-boo, one of the prime places on Worth Avenue to eat well and see and be seen. Ta-boo is a highly recommended restaurant with a continental menu, eclectic decor and variety of patrons including the occasional celebrity. We enjoyed the Worth Salad, Pulled Chicken Salad and Kale Salad.
2:30 pm – Window Shopping on Worth and Beyond
After lunch is the perfect time to stroll and shop on Worth Avenue, a picturesque palm-lined street similar to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. This is a shopper’s dream with luxury boutiques and well-known department stores including Saks Fifth Avenue. We checked out the latest fashions at Intermix and Calypso St. Barth and shopped for preppy necessities at Vineyard Vines and Ralph Lauren.
From Worth Avenue you can move on to the sought-after consignment stores around the corner on Sunset Avenue which offer a range of brands for significantly less than retail value. Some of the stores to check out include Attitudes Upscale Consignment and Classic Collections of Palm Beach. These are the kind of stores where you never know what kind of treasure you will find!
6:00 pm – Take a Break
If you are visiting Palm Beach it is fun to check out The Breakers, the quintessential historic Palm Beach hotel. After taking in the architecture, decor and floral arrangements in the hotel lobby, head straight to the upscale and decadent bar and restaurant HMF Palm Beach. Tapas and drinks such as the Royale Mojito and Frescavescent in this amazing space did not disappoint.
7:30 pm – Dinner and Dancing
For another amazing dinner with great food and ambiance, I recommend Buccan, a local hot spot where reservations are required. Small dishes by Chef Clay Conley are perfect for sharing and allowed us to try a variety including Tuna Tartare with Asian pear and peanuts, Hot Dog Panini, Lobster Tagliatelle and Florida Red Snapper. To our delight, the restaurant turned into a high end dance club with a DJ after dinner and we ended the evening dancing the night away.
8:00 am – Walk by the Water
On the last morning I suggest one more walk by the beautiful Atlantic ocean. Then take a little time to recharge quietly before checking out of the hotel.
12:00 pm – Farewell Brunch
For your last meal on vacation, consider in West Palm Beach. Pistache is a casual but classic Parisian restaurant with brunch specialties such as French Toast, Buttermilk Waffles and Croque-Madame. You will feel like you are ending your weekend away in a French Bistro.
With these ideas for fun things to do in Palm Beach, FL hopefully you will go home to your family refreshed and recharged!
