In the heart of the South, lies one of the best kept secrets for good fun, great food and lots of Southern hospitality…Birmingham, Alabama. There’s more to this locale than just great college football. Next time you’re traveling, in or around the “Steel City,” make sure that you check out a few of these fun things to do in Birmingham, Alabama.  You won’t be disappointed!

Like water adventures?

Make sure you take the family to Splash Adventure Waterpark. As the name implies, kids from ages 0 to 99 can enjoy loads of adventurous water fun. From ziplining to the Warrior (Lazy) River to the Wipeout Adventure Course, these wet and wild water rides are sure to please everyone!

Do you and the kids love animals?

Why not take a trip to the Birmingham Zoo? This is wonderful zoo is home to over 800 animals and over 200 different species. In addition, this organization has a special interest in the advancement of elephant conservation. Learn more about this through their wonderful exhibit called Trails of Africa.

Love science and adventure?

You won’t want to miss the McWane Science Center/IMAX Dome Theater. This is an excellent place for the ENTIRE family. Teens and tweens can check out the awesome technological exhibits, while your little ones entertain themselves in awe of the hands-on displays, giving them a fun look at science! Mom and Dad will love this place too, not to mention the IMAX theater that always features breath-taking, high quality shows.

Like a little history?

Birmingham has plenty of stories to share with its visitors and is rich with culture. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and 16th Street Baptist Church are rich with history, culture and detailed information about the point in time when the color of your skin determined your rights.

Who doesn’t like a great view of the city?

Don’t leave Birmingham without visiting the largest cast iron statue in the world, Vulcan. As Birmingham’s unofficial city symbol, Vulcan sits atop Red Mountain as a 56-foot-high statue with an observation balcony that allows you to see the entire city and get an amazing panoramic view!
