Fun at Connecticut Farms

Posted in Articles | by

Visiting Connecticut or passing through on an fall foliage trip? Instead of jamming the weekend with trips to every orchard, pumpkin patch and Fall festival, check out these fun Connecticut farms for great times with your family.

Silverman’s Farm

If you are looking for ways to keep the family time going after summer’s endless days, you must visit Silverman’s Farm. Located in Easton, CT, they offer the total farm experience with pick-your-own orchards and the cutest animal farm in the area. You will have to pay an admission to enter the animal farm, but it is totally worth it. Bunnytown is the cutest fun you will have all day.

Jones Family Farm

Jones Family Farm is renowned for their pumpkins and is THE best place for getting the perfect family picture with their fun family themes and hayrides. The farm has endless rows and rows of pumpkins so you will definitely find your perfect pumpkin for the season. How about a little wine to go with your pumpkin picking? The Jones Winery has a terrace and patio that is perfect to enjoy their award-winning wine.

Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm

Have a train lover in the family? Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm showcases a vintage Lionel model train, along with their apple and pear picking, hayrides and multi-acre maze. Admission costs $3 per person and is free for ages 3 and under, but this farm is truly a find.

Rose’s Berry Farm

Rose’s Berry Farm has two locations in Connecticut. I love the main Matson Hill Farm with over 100 acres of fresh produce. From June to January, you will find something to pick, whether it is berries or fresh Christmas trees. Along with a shop with colorful mums, apple cider and other sweets, the farm also has a great deck that is the perfect place for Sunday breakfast.

Lyman Orchards

Located in Middlefield, CT, Lyman Orchards is, as you can guess, in the middle of Connecticut. You will find something for everyone with their golf course, several pick-your-own orchards and out-of-this-world corn maze. You must stop by the Apple Barrel Market that, in my opinion, sells the best pies in Connecticut and so many other goodies. For all their delicious treats they use fresh, in-season produce to make the treats on the premises.

Tips for visiting farms any time throughout the year:

  • Bring a camera or video camera to capture all the fun.
  • Check your local farm’s website for produce availability and bad weather policies.
  • Many farms are working farms so they may not be wheelchair or stroller friendly — call ahead just to make sure.
  • Got little ones in your family? A wagon is the best form of transportation and can cart your bounty.
  • Dress appropriately, wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget the sunblock.
  • Other than service animals, please leave your beloved pets at home.

Whether you are looking for pumpkins, apples, animal interactions, golf or a little wine, Connecticut farms allow you to slow down and reconnect with your family.
