3 Fabulous & Free Celebrations to Ring in the New Year 2018
No other moment in the year gets as much attention as the unique tick that moves us from one year to the next. For hundreds of thousands of years, New Year’s Eve has prompted us to celebrate having survived the last 365 days and given us a special time to step outside our daily activities to reflect, look back, assess how we did and resolve to do even better going forward.
If you’re wondering what to do on New Year’s Eve this year, I have 3 fantastic and budget-friendly ways for you to celebrate this special moment in time!
3 Fun, Free Things to do on New Year’s Eve Across the U.S.
1. New Year’s Eve in Nashville, TN
This free event is a BIG one and it takes place at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville, Tennessee. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes because music greats like Keith Urban, Cheap Trick and Carly Pearce are playing at the event with two DJ’s spinning in between band sets too!
Visitors attending the festivities count down the New Year as a 15-foot red “Music Note Drop” inches its way down from a 145-foot structure. The music note drop triggers a fireworks display and confetti cannons as it reaches the midnight mark.
They even have a FREE app download for the special night to keep you informed on the entire event. The venue opens at 4 pm and concerts begin around 6:30 pm. They’ll also have food and beverages available for purchase and many other rockin’ festivities too.
Hotel recommendation: Hilton Nashville Downtown
2. First Night Boston
For a big city New Year’s Eve celebration that won’t have you jammed in like sardines, head to downtown Boston, Massachusetts for a plethora of fun for the entire family. All of this year’s entertainment and attractions are FREE and open to the public!
Festivities in Copley Square include ice sculptures and light shows, arts and musical performances and a countdown to midnight. There are also more ice sculptures, a free figure skating show on the Frog Pond ice rink at 6 pm and family fireworks at 7 pm at Boston Common.
Of course, many area pubs and restaurants will be celebrating too, and there will be a Midnight Fireworks Show over Boston Harbor across from the North End and Seaport to help you and yours ring in the New Year!
3. New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in New Orleans
Start the New Year off with Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve for an annual tradition with some New Orleans flair! Visitors need to make their way to Jackson Square in the hours leading up to midnight for live music, a view of the fleur-de-lis drop, and a spectacular fireworks show, Symphony in the Sky. Guests experience the fleur-de-lis drop with Ryan Seacrest and other celebrity guests for the Central Time Zone New Year’s Countdown! Admission is FREE and the event is open to the public.
