Zip Lining in Oahu with Kids

Posted in Articles | by

The Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the most incredible scenery I have ever seen — turquoise waters, lush green mountains and cascading waterfalls. How incredible would it be to get a bird’s eye view of this unique and gorgeous ecosystem? This dream is made possible on Oahu when you step out of your comfort zone, strap on a seriously heavy duty harness, and take a walk on the adventurous side by zip lining in Oahu.

Our Recommendation for Zip Lining in Oahu

There are several companies that offer zip lining on Oahu, but we chose CLIMB Works at Keana Farms for our adventure. CLIMB Works is situated on a working farm that produces over a million pounds of produce for local markets each year. The acronym CLIMB stands for Challenge, Learn, Inspire, Master and Believe. The company strives to “get people out of their comfort zones in a safe and controlled environment.”

I have to admit, I was scared out of my mind to try zip lining. My motto going into it was “be bold,” and I really tried to focus on that as I hurtled myself off of the platform. That being said, it was the most exhilarating experience I have ever had. Zip lining can be a great way to bond as a family and face some of those deep-seeded fears. Children as young as 7 years-old can join in on the fun and adventure.

The Zip Lining Experience

We began by doing some test runs by zip lining off of a small platform near the base. We were taught how to hang properly and turn ourselves if needed. The test run really helped build our confidence and made us feel a lot safer as we began our journey. After our test runs, we loaded into an ATV and headed up into the mountains. During our ride, our guide gave us some history of the island, the land and their different crops.

After a short ride we made it to the first of eight platforms. Each platform we took off from was subsequently higher and longer than the one before it, and the views just became better and better. We had views of the mountains, the North Shore and the lush working farm; all beautiful and unique. As you are zip lining over each new location, you forget that you are 400 feet above sea level and you find yourself completely at awe with your surroundings.

Throughout each zip line, our fabulous guides taught us different ways of riding. During one ride, we had to push ourselves to our limits and fly upside down. At several of the platforms we had to rappel or cross over boardwalks and sky bridges, which just added to the adventure. We also sampled some of the produce along the way; the bananas were a big hit.

By the end of our three-hour tour, we had bonded with our group as well as our guides and felt a renewed sense of boldness, adventure and growth.
