Downtown Tampa, Florida: Where to Eat, Play and Sleep
Thinking about heading to sunny Tampa, Florida with your family? This vibrant and bustling historic city can be a lot of fun for families, whether Tampa is your destination or just a stop before boarding a cruise ship.
Enjoy the festivities of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in January or take in some interesting museums. Go to a special concert, Broadway show, or a Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game. I love the In-Town Trolley and the fact that much of Tampa is walkable. Here are my family’s favorite Tampa restaurants and activities and where we like to stay.
Best Restaurants in Tampa for Families
Yep, I love to eat! If I could just talk about food, there would be no shortage of delectable information when it comes to downtown Tampa. However, I realize that I’m here to give a few family-friendly restaurant recommendations so, that being said, here are our top three favorite restaurants in Tampa.
Eddie and Sam’s New York Pizza
I know families love pizza and Eddie and Sam’s dishes up some pizza you’ll love. Serving hand-tossed dough that’s made with water shipped directly from New York, this little restaurant definitely hits a home run. With everything from gigantic New York style pies (or individual pieces), calzones, wings, pasta, hero sandwiches, Gelato and so much more, I guarantee your family will love the food. We do!
Open since 1905, this delightful Cuban restaurant is the original Columbia restaurant and located in the historic Ybor City. With everything from beans and rice to satisfy picky eaters to delicious and authentic Cuban dishes, mouth-watering mojitos and superb sangria, there is something here for every member of the family. In all honesty, if you’re visiting Tampa, this place should not be missed.
Sometimes families are just looking for a good burger joint where everyone can easily find something they want to eat. Well, look no further…Hattrick’s is your place. With a sports bar setting and a bustling environment, even the loudest of children won’t be noticed here. And, as an added bonus, the menu is large and the prices are good. Plus the food, which includes everything from burgers and wings to pasta and chicken fingers, is tasty!
Fun Things to do in Tampa with Kids

- Florida Aquarium
- American Victory Museum Ship

- Ybor City
Where to Stay in Tampa
Hilton Tampa Downtown is the perfect family-friendly hotel, and it’s centrally located to everything you’ll want to do. Located in the very heart of downtown Tampa, this hotel is contemporary, clean, accommodating and, as I mentioned, super convenient. With everything from a rooftop pool and a 24-hour fitness center to an onsite Starbucks and a family-friendly restaurant with excellent eats, this place definitely won’t disappoint.
