Good Eats in Raleigh, NC
I wouldn’t call myself a Foodie, but I will admit that my family is a bit more selective about what we eat than we were even two years ago. Our family of four is composed of a vegan, two pescatarians, and one teenage boy (no description needed). Needless to say, sometimes finding a place to eat that makes us all happy is a challenge.
We live close to the Raleigh area, so we often travel there when shopping, attending sporting events, or getting to the airport. If you find yourself in Raleigh, looking for something to satisfy a variety of tastes, here are some of our favorites.
3 of the Best Restaurants in Raleigh, NC for Families
I’ll admit, I was a bit disappointed to learn that the name of this restaurant did not refer to the reading type of fiction. Rather, the name Fiction Kitchen is a play on the menu. Despite the fact that “Chicken and Waffles” appear on the Sunday Brunch menu, this is a completely vegetarian/vegan restaurant, and the “chicken” is meatless.
Don’t let that keep you away. Our teenage son, a confessed carnivore, ate every bite of his “chicken” and waffles. The vegan seasonal fritters (blueberry when we went) were better than any traditional fritter I’ve ever had. The link sausage looked and tasted so real, our vegan daughter couldn’t believe it wasn’t pork. We also enjoyed the Grit Bowl of Goodness: grits (either with cheese or vegan), topped with veggies, “bacon” and eggs or tofu.
Tip: This restaurant is small and very popular. Go early or prepare to wait.
Thai is a family favorite, and it doesn’t hurt that everyone can find something they like at Lemongrass Thai. If you have a special dietary need or need your food prepared differently, for example: no eggs, be sure to tell them. The food choices at this restaurant are plentiful and delicious.
This is another small restaurant and is popular for lunch, especially with the nearby professional buildings. During warmer weather, I recommend sitting outside.
BAD DADDY’S BURGER BAR
If you want a burger, THIS is the place to go in Raleigh. With a wide variety of burgers from grass-fed beef to vegetarian, there’s something at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar for everyone. They also have a make-your-own salad menu that is incredible. One of the toughest decisions you’ll have to make is between the homemade fries and homemade chips. I recommend getting both and sharing. Our family was torn as to which was better.
This restaurant is bigger than other two, but the numerous televisions make it a popular location on game day.
Lastly, if your travels take you to the Raleigh area and you need a place to stay, Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown is centrally located to everything Raleigh has to offer.
