Great Key Largo Restaurants for Families
Key Largo, FL is a tropical paradise and a great place for a family vacation. With the relaxed beach atmosphere, most restaurants are suitable for kids, but here are some of our favorite family restaurants in Key Largo.
Marker 88 is technically in the neighboring town of Islamorada but only a few minutes from Key Largo. It is located at mile marker 88 and offers a spectacular view of the ocean and boats in the marina. The dock is the perfect spot for sunset pictures, and the outdoor tables share the same view. There are even some shaded “rocking tables” along the beach which look particularly fun for younger kids. The menu includes fresh fish, steaks, and salads, and our favorites here were the Creamy Blue Crab Dip and the healthy Alligator Salad (which doesn’t actually include alligator). Reservations are accepted here and I would recommend making them.
The Pilot House
Located on the Atlantic in Key Largo, the Pilot House restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and an outdoor bar with live music on the night we visited. The bar and outdoor seating area overlook the marina and the bar is known for its “glass bottom floor” where squares of glass allow you to see into the ocean. At the Pilot House I loved the shrimp tacos. Reservations are also accepted here.
Treetops Bar & Grill
Located at Hilton Key Largo Resort, Treetops Bar & Grill offers a varied selection of items including fresh seafood and steaks, with a Caribbean and Mediterranean twist. The newly renovated inside tables are contemporary and comfortable, and the outdoor tables provide an amazing view of the ocean. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet here and also an outdoor dinner where we particularly liked the mahi mahi. Reservations are accepted for dinner.
The Fish House and The Fish House Encore
These two Key Largo restaurants are located next to each other on Overseas Highway. Although not on the water, they both have menus full of fresh fish. We were able to sit in the outside courtyard at The Fish House Encore which has a lively and fun environment. Besides fish, The Fish House Encore also offers a sushi menu, and we enjoyed the specialty rolls while the kids ate a healthy mix of white and wheat pasta. I couldn’t resist the Key Lime Pie with meringue, and it did not disappoint. The Fish House does not accept reservations, but The Fish House Encore does.
General Tips for Key Largo Restaurants:
1. To avoid a long wait with kids, make reservations in advance.
2. Check the time of sunset if you would like to view the sunset from your table.
3. If the weather allows, request to sit outside.
4. If restaurants don’t take reservations, try to arrive before 6 pm.
Hopefully these tips and suggestions on family restaurants in Key Largo will help you relax and enjoy your vacation!
