5 Ways to Relax on Hawaii’s Big Island
Hawaii has some astonishing locations amongst its islands, but the Big Island of Hawaii is an incredibly unique place to visit. The island of Hawaii is the largest of the islands, has two active volcanoes and features a vast amount of lava rock around every turn. It is a stark contrast to the lush greenery of Maui, yet it ecompasses a unique beauty that is awe inspiring.
If you are looking for a fantastic resort, Hilton Waikaloa Village is a superb choice. They feature three pools, a lagoon that is fed from the ocean, a dolphin experience and a large array of restaurants for every palate. Our stay at the Hilton was phenomenal. While there are plenty of Hawaiian activities to enjoy around every corner, sometimes it is a necessity to just relax. Here are 5 ways to relax on Hawaii’s Big Island.
Beach 69 is a small and somewhat rustic beach on the Kohala Coast, just a few miles from Hilton Waikaloa Village. On the south end of the beach, there is a very rocky area that is great for snorkeling. The north side is much better for swimming. You will find ample shade under the trees. Be sure to bring some water to drink because there is no vending area at this very private beach. While there, take in the incredible scenery and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves.
Beach Front Happy Hour
Down the road from Hilton Waikaloa Village is a little restaurant called Lava Lava Beach Club. It boasts a spectacular view, a delicious and diverse menu and one of the best Mai Tai’s on the island. Lava Lava Beach club is a fantastic way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with your family.
The children can splash in the waves while you relax in a beach chair with your favorite drink and some appetizers. I highly recommend the pulled pork sliders and the cheese nachos, and wash it down with a Gilligan’s Girl. You won’t regret your incredible afternoon at Lava Lava, but be sure to get there early or make reservations, Lava Lava is one of the most popular spots on the beach.
Nothing says relaxation more than an oceanside massage. The Kohala Spa at Hilton Waikaloa Village offers a 75-minute sea side massage that is guaranteed to relax your mind, body and spirit. Bring the kids over to Club Keiki for a fun afternoon and grab your partner for a little TLC. Some other options for you are the Four Hands Scalp and Foot massage or the Fire and Ice Facial. Don’t forget to take a nice relaxing soak in the hot tub before or after your treatment.
Yes, golf requires movement and some concentration, but what could be more relaxing than taking in nine or 18 holes with the ocean as your backdrop? Some choice options for a round with a view are the championship course at Hilton Waikaloa or the Kona Country Club, both of which offer incredible views of the ocean and the mountains. For a course like no other, try out the Big Island Country Club. Alongside the greens you will find goats, nene, chickens and even some donkeys.
Take in the diverse ecosystem that the Big Island has to offer on horseback. Many of the tours offer views of waterfalls, river valleys, mountains and of course the ocean. Immerse yourself in the wondrous scenery of Hawaii and breathe in the fresh air. You are bound to feel a renewed sense of relaxation after your ride through one of the most beautiful places on earth.
On the Big Island, you will find many exciting Hawaiian activities to create your own adventure, but don’t forget to take time to unwind and take in the beauty that the island has to offer. While I listed 5 ways to relax on Hawaii’s Big Island, find what relaxes you the most and go for it!
